Choose the knowledge mode and review excerpts, question, provider, estimated credits, and cap in preflight. Approve external research for this run only when the Pro entitlement is available.
Verify that local evidence and external-research sources retain separate labels, URLs, retrieval time, and snapshot hashes and that each final claim identifies its source type.
External research is never disguised as local source evidence or silently merged; only the approved snapshot enters preview and the final deliverable.

Read the state, then make the decision
Even SUPPORTED claims should be adopted only after opening the source location. PARTIAL, CONFLICT, NOT_FOUND, and NEEDS_REVIEW are never silently finalized; choose the appropriate next action: open the source, correct a value, add evidence, or exclude the item.

Indexing, keyword search, opening sources, and reviewing existing results can run with zero external AI requests and zero AI credits.
When external AI is selected
Orbivell shows the provider, excerpt scope, estimated credits, and cap, and sends only after one-time approval. Actual usage is reconciled with an append-only ledger.
LIMITS AND ERRORS
What Orbivell does not silently finalize
Local-only mode has zero external requests and cannot use external research or some advanced AI modes. External information can change, so recheck retrieval time and the original URL.
Error or state code: EXTERNAL_RESEARCH_APPROVAL_REQUIRED
If the state repeats, follow the next action shown in Status. Do not alter the source or delete failure records; request support with a redacted diagnostics bundle.
